Happy December, everybody.
Equinoxe Part 4 (1978)
ICECREAM x Ghost in the Shell S.A.C.
honestly I don’t think you could go wrong with any of the main 4 Warp studio albums but MHTRTC is the generally recommended starting point
Geogaddi is definitely my favorite of those, it’s like MHTRTC’s sound but more fully realized in production, melody and attention to detail, darker and creepier in tone. Campfire Headphase is more of a step back in production but with more warm and nostalgic melodies with acoustic guitars, Tomorrow’s Harvest is probably the most focused on texture and atmosphere but not quite as rewarding in the melody department, it’s heavily modeled after late 70s-80s sci fi/horror film soundtracks with lots of arpeggiator synths (Vangelis, Carpenter, Fabio Frizzi, etc.) if you’re into that good stuff
And the EPs: hi scores and Twoism are great stuff if “trip hop beats with eerie/somber wobbly synths” sounds appealing to you, In a Beautiful Place out in the Country is something you should hear pretty much no matter what and Trans Canada Highway is kind of eh I don’t listen to it much beyond Hear From Telegraph lines every now and again
And if you really really really love everything you’ve heard at this point, the old tunes/random 35 tapes are a really interesting look into their past as musicians (as far back as the 80s!) and it has some of their best work mixed in with complete shit so beware I guess.
holy shit this is fucking long ehhaaah
I need to hear the proper studio version of this in my lifetime
same with Noatak (track 7 on the ATP live set) which ironically has more of a chance of leaking, being confirmed on an existing album
